Comedy Writing 101

Hey all. Long time no talk.

I've just been living my life, trying to get by, day by day. But the good news is that spring is here and the days are getting longer and I'm getting out of my funk that winter always puts me in.

I wanted to tell you guys about this class I'm taking. For 16 weeks I am part of the MDAO's Laughing Like Crazy program, which brings together people with mood disorders to write about their life experiences, and, well, turn these into jokes! It all culminates with a stand-up comedy show case at the end of the 16 weeks, where we all perform our jokes and laugh about our lives.

If you've known me for a while, you know that I've taken a similar class before, and even performed stand-up comedy before! You can watch me on YouTube here:

Wow, was I ever a little jokester!

Anyways, I would like to extend the invite out to those of you in Toronto who follow my blog to come check out the Laughing Like Crazy showcase on June 2, at the YMCA on Grosvenor St at 7 PM.

Comment below for more info, or if you think I might actually be funny! (And not just funny looking.)

Smart Parka - your last winter jacket

If there's two things I know about it's cold (being from Winnipeg my whole life has practically made me immune to it), and cool (I mean, I am the coolest person you might meet on the mean streets of Toronto nowadays). This project is both and I'm super proud to be a brand ambassador for it.

It's called the Smart Parka, a waterproof, weatherproof, dual layer, extendable, warm, cozy, and good looking winter jacket.

Their video explains everything. Watch it here:

Smart Parka - The Best Winter Coat in the World from North Aware on Vimeo.

Born out of necessity of living in Toronto, Canada, this parka is cooler than a polar bears toenail and created for the urban lifestyle, but still warm enough to rock on your snowboarding expeditions. Here's how they are reinventing the winter coat:

Their Kickstarter launched TODAY and the first 100 people to back the project get the coats for an unbelievable price of $295 CDN.

And yes, I'm not just writing this cause I am completely in love with this project, I do get something out of it if you use my link to support their Kickstarter. But I will give something back to you! If you purchase the coat using my link () I will give you a free ad on my site for LIFE (I'll even design the ad for you if your don't have one). Plus I will share your site across all my social media links of which I have over 5,000 followers combined. I will basically become YOUR brand ambassador!

Just let me know in the comments below if you are planning on backing the project and I will be in touch!

My Best Outfit Posts of 2015

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone was safe and had fun on New Year's Eve!

2015 was a busy year for me - getting fully settled in Toronto, finally finding my dream job, making new friends and meeting new people. Unfortunately I didn't get as many outfit posts in as I wanted to, but the ones I did end up getting were epic and fun! Here's my best outfit posts of 2015 with a little story behind each outfit.

In January, I went to my first Curvalicious Canada event, and lace was the name of the game that night! Almost all of the lovely ladies I met wore a lace dress as well- lace is the place! I made some wonderful friends that night and had a great time.

Dress size 2x from ModCloth

In February I was a hashtag babe in this great denim a-line skirt and crop top showing off my Nicki Minaj tattoo.  Just a fun little shoot in my room by myself, never wore this outfit out anywhere.

#babe crop top size large from eBay, zip front denim skirt in size 1x from Pink Club Wear

In February I also got the urge to crop all of my hair off! I went to see the lovely and effervescent Ilona at Anthony Passero Salon. Cutting my hair was strangely liberating and gave me the confidence boost I needed during a dreary February.

Bodysuit size 2xl from Forever 21, harem pants size S from City Chic Online

In spring I found that comfort was queen, as I spent most of my days searching for jobs and hanging out with my also funemployed friend Sophia, who shot this picture of me rocking my 2Chainz look!

2Chainz teeshirt size men's M from Hot Topic, chain print leggings size XL from H&M, longline cardigan size 2XL from Forever 21

In May for Sophia's birthday the whole gang took a road trip to Montreal, my first time there! What a beautiful city, and what a better place to look funky and fashionable!

"I'm jealous of me too" dress size L from H&M, over the knee boots from Forever 21

September was my 31st birthday and I spent it in the company of great friends and had a surprise Hello Kitty themed birthday party thrown for me! I was gifted some fabulous things and was treated like a princess. I even got my makeup done at Sephora!

Floral romper size 14 from H&M

In October I switched from Tumblr to Blogger for the new home for my blog! I also went blonde, and yes, it's true what they say, we have WAY more fun!

Leopard print sweater size L from H&M

December was an amazing month. I started playing with my hair colour, which is currently purple-ish blue-ish grey-ish blonde-ish, and to bring me closer to my comic book spirit, Ramona Flowers (haha). Christmas was celebrated with a giant Halal turkey and handmade gnocchi. I was given the gift of extra spoons, and some other lovely items. I reached out and found a therapist who I believe will challenge me into the new year and help me with everything I need to get past. I celebrated the new year with my awesome bopo pal Ama Scriver who just launched her new blog which is amazing.

Dress size 12 from J. Crew

This year has been very special to me and I am so happy to be where I am, even with all the bad things that happened and especially with all the good things that happened.

Here's to hoping 2016 will be filled with more fun, more laughter, and more memories.

The New Normal or Dealing With Your Emotions After Trauma

Have you ever felt like you've completely lost your mind? Everything goes in and out, blank to real in 2.2 seconds flat, and back again. I never thought I would have to write about these feelings again. I thought I left them behind when I finally found the right medication and a good therapist.

But it all came back to me recently, after a traumatic experience. Those awful feelings came flooding back and I found myself in that same bad place. I lost it, I snapped, and found myself crying on the train home from work, contemplating downing the bottle of percocet in my handbag.

I took myself to the hospital, the one closest to my home, and checked in. They took my pills, and quickly got me in to see the doctor. I was honestly impressed with the speed at which they processed me, which took my mind off the bad thoughts, even if only for a moment. The doctor walked me through my options, then a nurse came and took all my information again.

You learn to repeat your story over and over again. I said "no", he didn't use any force, I blanked out as a survival mechanism, it happened so quickly, he didn't use protection, he came inside me, I'm not pressing charges, was it sex or rape? I never said yes, and asked him to use protection, neither request was acknowledged, so was it sex or rape?

They arranged for me to see a caseworker, and a psychiatrist, as well as a psych nurse. The arrangements were made so fast - I've already seen my caseworker once and he gave me a pile of information and was very helpful. I see the psychiatrist on Monday. I go for testing a week Tuesday. I'm on the right track to face the new normal in my life.

Everyone takes stumbles, has their train fall off the tracks once and a while, but you need to keep trying to move forward. To find your new normal. I know, for myself, finding that normal meant reaching out for professional help.

Asking for help is a big scary step, so if you ever find yourself in a situation like this, and afraid to ask for help, don't get down on yourself for it. It took me many years to realize the signs of a psychotic break in myself, and be able to reach out for help.

But finding the new normal - that's the easy part. Throwing myself into living life again, going to work, hanging out with my friends, taking up new hobbies, going on dates, these are all things that will bring me to a new normal. I may not be ready for an intimate relationship for a long time, but that's my new normal, and anyone who can't appreciate that or deal with it can step out of my life. I will not tolerate anyone in my life who does not respect me or my wishes.

I hope that if you have faced this in your life, that you have found your new normal. And if you haven't that you will consider reaching out to someone who can help you find your new normal. And if you want an anonymous ear to listen, drop me a line, I have been through a lot in my life and can probably offer you some great advice in finding your new normal.

On Paris and the world.

This isn't just a Paris thing. People are dying everywhere. In our own backyards people are dying of consumerist terrorism. Militant terrorism. This is a world wide epidemic that has nothing to do with religion and everything  to do with politics. Please remember this before you attack your local mosque or church or synagogue. People can hold high their faith without attacking others for it. Life is too short to blame others who have nothing to do with these issues. Please love eachother with aplomb because you never know who will be taken from you next.

I Pinked My Hair!

OMG! I pinked my hair! It's only temporary thanks to the BTZ Colour Mousse, which is, unfortunately, a discontinued product. But it's a fun way to add some colour to your hair in a very temporary way (washes out after one shampoo). I'm looking for other colours to dye my hair, so leave suggestions in the comments below!
